Our Clients
SaxaVord Spaceport has a firmly-established client base that will expand further as additional companies look to gain access to space for satellite payloads.
Rocket factory Augsburg (RFA)
Our most well-developed relationship is with Rocket Factory Augsburg (RFA), which has a dedicated launch pad and already-constructed launch stool.
RFA’s RFA ONE launch system is a flexible and dedicated European launch service. SaxaVord’s close partnership with RFA is a great example of how the UK is key to the whole European space industry: RFA’s flights from SaxaVord are supported by both the German Space Agency (DLR) and the UK Space Agency (UKSA) which gave £3.5m in funding to RFA via the European Space Agency (ESA).
In 2025, RFA obtained its spaceflight operator licence from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), another key milestone in Europe’s journey toward independent private sector access to space.
RFA ONE is powered by the unique Helix engine. It uses a staged combustion cycle that is not only more efficient than traditional open-cycle engines but also results in 30% more payload capacity. Its third stage ‘Redshift’ offers precise satellite deployment to different orbits with pinpoint accuracy.
In May 2024, at SaxaVord, RFA achieved an exciting milestone with a successful 4 engine live firing test – pictured here – the first ever on European soil. We expect the team to be back on Launch Pad 1 (Fredo) in late 2025.
State-of-the-art facilities
Currently, the site has one operational launch complex, consisting of a launch stool, pad and Integration hangar, where rockets and satellites are integrated. The stool and pad are occupied exclusively by Rocket Factory Augsburg (RFA).
A bespoke rocket tracking, telemetry and flight termination system has also been installed on the site.
Two more complexes are under construction, as well as a Mission Management Control Centre to monitor launches.
SaxaVord also provides bespoke facilities for component testing, development and storage.
There is also office space, high-quality accommodation and catering for those close to the launch site.
Once built, the spaceport will support up to 30 launches a year.
HyImpulse is a launch services provider based in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Founded with the goal of revolutionising access to space, HyImpulse’s sounding rocket SR75 and small launcher SL1 are powered by unique and proprietary hybrid propulsion systems.
This disruptive technology enables HyImpulse to offer affordable, frequent, responsive, and safe access to space for small satellites and spacecrafts. SL1 has a payload capacity of 400kg to a 500 km SSO.
HyImpulse has been testing its propulsion systems at Scatsta Airfield in Shetland under the auspices of SaxaVord since April 2023 and continues to refine its technology prior to developing an orbital launch program.
