Putting bright ideas into business

Have a great idea that you think could be a big deal in technology or manufacturing, but not sure about next steps?

Individuals, companies and organisations in Shetland with innovative schemes in mind are invited to two free-to-attend events on 5^th and 6^th October where they can find out how to access support and funding. It follows a successful online event held last year.

The events, the first at SaxaVord Spaceport, the second at Shetland UHI – Scalloway Campus, are being hosted by SaxaVord Spaceport and the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA), a Government organisation which finds and funds exploitable innovations to support UK defence and security.

Speakers will attend from organisations covering a wide range of interests, including artificial intelligence, downstream use of satellite data, defence and security, the internet of things and a range of other technology.

In addition to SVSP and DASA, the organisations include Censis, The Data Lab, ESA Business Applications, KTN, Innovate and Interface.

Yvette Hopkins, of SVSP, said: “We are pleased to be joining once again with DASA in hosting these events to highlight not only the wide range of organisations that can help support and fund your innovations, but the innovative mindset and business acumen resident in Shetland.

“We look forward to potentially working together with local businesses, academia and innovators on forward thinking ideas and concepts to support our spaceport plans for Unst.”

A DASA spokesman said: “Members of the DASA Outreach team, along with a number of other organisations who support innovation, are looking forward to learning about the innovative ideas in Shetland and the surrounding area and helping organisations make the most of the government support and funding on offer.
